German Lessons
Watch as I take SpeedyConKiwi’s good teaching out onto the streets of Germany and totally butcher the language. (Or give up and just speak English at people who don’t understand it.)
Oh, and I know there’s a typo in ‘weird’ – I only noticed it after uploading…

Learn German with SpeedyConKiwi! #7: NOMINATIV – first case – plus bonus questions!
Please subscribe ![]()
high quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CApKP1DgZwU&fmt=18
More info here:
today we’re talking about the first case in German grammar, the nominative (der Nominativ)
In order to know when to use the nominative for a noun in a sentence, you’ll have to ask the following questions:
“What is that? (Was ist das?)” or
“Who is that? (Wer ist das?)”
If the noun in a sentence is the answer to one of those two questions, you’ll know you have to use the nominative form of it.
Examples used here:
“Das ist ein Apfel. (This is an apple)” and
“Das ist Kiwi. (This is Kiwi)”
who? – wer?
what? – was?
der Apfel – the apple
ein Apfel – an apple
The next three learn german videos will be about the three other cases of German grammar:
- Genitiv
- Dativ
- Akkusativ
I’ll provide you with more explanatory questions that will help you to figure out what case to use for what noun in a sentence (and yes, unfortunately those other three cases will be even more difficult to explain and understand).
I hope this was helpful!

Story Behind Song: Many of many firsts for me. My first to write a song in German (1hr). My first to sing a song in German. My first to have Kaiser sit for as long as 5 mins XD (that’s why you see me singing to him, a way of me saying “stay, sit” while singing). Searching youtube to better my Deutsch, I found out there weren’t any learn german through songs, so I decided to write one=) Germany has been great to me. Beautiful Country, rich in history and kind people. This is my way of paying it forward of having the world learn a little more Deutsch through song. I just hope the Native Deutsch speakers are forgiving=) Danke Schon to my German friends Arnold and Dagmar who have helped me with the translations and with my attempted pronunciation! tc, JC.

Learn German with SpeedyConkiwi #8.1 [difficult words - please see sidebar for detailed info!]
let me know what you think!
when i had the idea of people submitting words, at first i was thinking i was just gonna do one video, pronouncing a whole lot of words in a short time. but once i started thinking about pronunciation problems in general, i felt it may be a lot clearer if i explained a bit more about the words?
would you agree or prefer a short video with just WORD after WORD?
hope you’re all good,
xx
