We have two forms …
We have two forms for “you are” formal and informal.
“Sie sind” is formal for example if you would talk with your boss or someone you don’t know yet.
“Du bist” is informal, so for friends and family.

du bist means Thou art
Ihr seid means Ye are
the difference is the german counter-part to thou “Du” is still used for the family, friends and people whoe are in your age.
Ye or Ihr is only used if you want to speak direct with many people or in some dialect as formal You
so use Du if you speak to one single family member or one single friends. and if you want to speak with some people (for example two of your friends) use Ihr
